Skincare: My Favorite Face Masks

six types of Face MasksAh, face masks. One of my favorite ways to feel like I’m doing something really great for my skin. As crazy as it sounds, I try to apply one daily. If I know I’m going to be sitting around my house, a mask is applied. If I know I’m going to an event, a mask is applied. Sometimes several, at different times throughout the day. I don’t play around.

While I’ve tried a ton, I’ve narrowed it down to my favorites:

Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant:

Biologique Recherche Masque Vivant: Hands down, my number one most repurchased mask, ever. I’ve been using Masque Vivant for almost a decade because my skin just loves it. Quite frankly, if you’re able to get past the offensive smell of soy sauce and vegemite, I’d recommend it in a heartbeat.

Biologique Recherche describes it as a purifying mask, but it really does so much more. It reduces excess oil production, speeds healing of blemishes, brightens and evens skin tones, makes pores look smaller over time, tightens skin and hydrates and soothes. I know, very bold claims. All I know is that my skin looks a lot better when I use it regularly and when I’m in need of a pick-me-up, it’s always part of my routine.

What it does:

Evens out skin, shrinks and tightens pores, regulates sebum secretion, purifies and revives and brightens the complexion.

How to use:

You can use morning or night. I typically use it about 3x a week, but one can most certainly use it daily. Also, I tend to apply a little P50 prior to the mask to open up the pores, but you can use any toner you have on hand. I also use P50 after the mask followed, but I realize it’s a pricey product to apply 2x, so do what works for you. On days when my skin is breaking out or feeling extra congested, I mix with a little bit of baking soda.

Where to Purchase: Rescue Spa, Aida Bicaj, Vicki Morav.

Biologique Recherche VIP02:

This is my second favorite from Biologique. When my skin is feeing and looking dull and parched, the VIP02 is my go-to.

What it does: it enhances cell regeneration, soothes the skin and replenishes lipids. On vacation or when I’ve had a bit too much sun, I love to put this on after to replenish the look and feel of my skin.

How to use:You can use daily, morning or night. I tone, apply a layer of this on my face, neck and chest and hang around for as long as I’m able to. I apply P50 after and proceeds with my usual skincare routine.

Where to Purchase: Rescue Spa, Aida Bicaj, Vicki Morav.

Clarins Intense Depuffing Mask:

I discovered this mask from Kathleen Jennings Beauty on Instagram and it has become my go-to on mornings when I’ve had too many drinks, too much soy sauce with my sushi or anything that just makes me look extra puffy. It’s not a miracle, but it does work. I doesn’t hydrate, it doesn’t improve skin-tone, but it really does depuff and that alone, makes it a favorite in the arsenal.

What it does:

Depuffs and deloats! I will sometimes use one of the above masks on my t-zone and cheeks and then use the depuffing on my jaw.

How to use:

On a freshly cleansed face, apply it to your entire face or to specific areas. I often concentrate on my jaw and around my eye area.

Where to purchase: Sephora.

Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask:

As the name suggests, this mask resurfaces the skin and never fails to leave it feeling smoother and brighter. I leave it on for about 20 minutes and upon rinsing off, I’m left with a rosy complexion that settles into it looking radiant and refreshed.

What it does:

brightens, exfoliates and leaves the skin looking polished.

How to use:

on. freshly cleansed face, I apply and leave on for 10-30minutes. If you’re sensitive or newer to the mask, start out slow and work your way up.

Where to purchase: Sephora.

Farmacy Honey Potion Plus:

There are a handful of masks that I love that Sephora sells and this is one of them. It’s so good when your skin is feeling like it needs some extra soothing nourishment, especially after spending time on vacation and in the sun (or doing any winter activity like skiing). It warms up as you apply and the honey formula seems to just melt into the skin, making it look and feel way more replenished.

What it does:

 Soothes, moisturizes, nourishes, replenishes.

How to use:

Whenever your skin is feeling particularly dry or parched, generously apply to cleansed skin and leave it on a long as you’re able to.

Where to purchase: Sephora.

Farmacy 10% Niacinamide Overnight Mask:

An overnight leave-on face mask that smooths, refines texture and supports the skin’s moisture barrier. It’s super moisturizing and I just love an overnight mask, especially when applied on top of my current routine, that works for you at night.

What it does:

Helps with pores, dullness and dehydration.

How to use:

I love using it on top of my nighttime moisturizer. I follow my routine as usual and use this as my last step.

Where to purchase: Sephora.

The Light Salon Light Boost Mask:

Last but certainly not least is my Light Boost LED Mask. Not a traditional mask, but one I don’t ever want to be without. I cannot say enough good things about what it does for my skin. Beyond a holy grail for me. I love using one of the above masks and then following it up with this The Light Boost. If you’re interested, here is my detailed post.

It’s pricey, but if there’s something to put on your future wishlist, it’s this one. Perhaps Mother’s Day for my moms out there?

How about you? Please let me know your favorite! I’m always wanting to try something new.
