I’ll start with a little background story. Keith and I met in college; he was in a fraternity and I was in a sorority and I had a big crush on him from the moment I spotted him. Luckily for me, it turns out the feeling was mutual. We had lots of mutual friends and eventually, hanging out in a group turned into going on solo dates. Our very first real “adult” date was at Pete’s restaurant in Dumbo, which we named our mini Schnauzer (Pete!) after, years later. (Sadly, the restaurant is no longer there). I should also add, Keith wasn’t a dog person when I met him (how is that even possible?!) and now we have 2! My, how things change.
Fast forward to 3 years ago. I first started my blog and we were spending our Sunday leisurely driving around Brooklyn, knowing eventually we would hop out to take some blog photos. As we neared the Dumbo area, Keith turns to me and says “want to take some photos by Pete’s restaurant?!” my reply “Sure. Sounds good to me!” We park the car and walk over to the restaurant. As I’m standing on the corner, fixing my lipgloss and waiting for him to get the camera ready, all of a sudden he’s on one knee while a crowd is circling around us. The rest is a blur, but it was obviously an unforgettable day!
Some might find it odd that we’ve been engaged for that long, and honestly, there’s no specific reason as to why, it’s just what worked for us! Hey, we’ve never been traditional people or a traditional couple.
BUT NOW, our wedding is almost a month away and I could not be more excited! I’m stressed, having mini panic attacks over everything that needs to be done, but from what everyone is telling me, that’s normal, right?!
We’re getting married at 501 Union in Brooklyn, a venue we immediately fell in love with after visiting countless locations. It’s an open space, so part of the fun (and stress) is bringing in everything ourselves. Initially, when we started discussing what we wanted for our wedding, we knew we just wanted to have an unforgettable party with our friends and family. Lots of eating, dancing and drinking! We picked Thanksgiving Eve because back in the day, it was one of our biggest “going out nights” of the year. Keith’s fraternity would throw a huge party and in general, it was just a happy day! The holidays were here, you got a few days off of school or work and everyone was just in happy spirits. What’s not to love?
