An Update: My 19 for 2019

My 19 for 2019 List
Trench: Old. Similar alternative here and here | Denim: L’Agence | Shoes: Louboutin | Bag: Mansur Gavriel | Sunglasses: Celine

Back in January, I made a 19 for 2019 list. Typically, as many of us do, I’ll make a list and a few months (or even weeks) down the line, I’ll forget about it. This year, I vowed to check in with myself, at least two times, before the year ended.

With that being said, below is reminder of my list and where I stand with it. As soon as I started reading it and realizing just how many things I have yet to do, I started to feel a little guilty. Then I realized, that’s not the point of this exercise. If anything, it just serves as a refresher!

My 19 for 2019 List

  1. Try a Pilates Reformer Class: Nope. Have not done this yet, but I am thrilled that there’s one opening up in my neighborhood soon. Before, I’d have to travel pretty far, which is not the best excuse, but I’m hoping having one close by, will give me the motivation I need.
  2. Get my Drivers License: Nope. Have not gotten it yet.
  3. Get a Mammogram: Not yet, but I did make an appointment! That’s a start.
  4. Learn how to invest money. YES! Finally. I met with a financial advisor and started investing a little bit. Also, as someone who runs their own business, I was very confused at the best way to go about things (often, still am). I finally signed up for Quickbooks (to keep my finances and book keeping organized).
  5. Make a dentist appointment. Ah, nope. Need to get on this asap!
  6. Stop sleeping with the phone on my nightstand. Not entirely, but I started turning off my direct messages before bed and rarely checking my phone when I cannot sleep or when I wake up. Definitely a huge step.
  7. Start and finish my gallery wall. I’m excited because my dining room, including gallery wall, plans are in the works. I’ve been working with Devon Grace Interiors the ball is rolling and I cannot wait to share the results.
  8. Plan a romantic trip with Keith, just the two of us. No, but this fall for a beach trip and a shorter, two day trip, this summer.
  9. Plan a family trip to a place we’ve never been. YES! Planning to go to Lake Como & Tuscany this summer (read the details here). So excited about it!
  10. Take a wine class. Unfortunately, have not done this yet.
  11. Create physical photo albums from when Nate was born to now.
Back up all of my digital photos onto a hard drive.
Feel super guilty about this one because I still have not done it!
  12. Try one new restaurant a month. Definitely tried a few new restaurants, but probably have not stuck to one new one a month.
  13. Continue following the one-minute rule. Yes! That I’ve been good with and it’s such a game changer.
  14. Cook one new recipe a month. Definitely! I don’t think I’ve ever cooked so much in my life. In the past few months, I’ve tried: Berry & cream cheese croissant bake (made for Mother’s Day brunch), Sheet Pan harissa chicken and sweet potatoes, Soy Sesame Salmon with Soba Noodles and a few others.
  15. Volunteer. No 🙁
  16. Spend more time with my parents. Probably not as much as I should.
  17. Take the initiative and plan at least one friends trip. Well, I went away with the the girls, but we took our sons with us. When I made this list, I definitely meant without children, but it still ended up being such a blast.
  18. Take a media class. Also, not yet.

So I’m curious, if you made a similar list, where do you stand? Again, I didn’t expect to finish the entire list by May, but I’m glad that I’ve checked in with myself. This serves as a good reminder of my goals and a few things I really want to focus on!

Love this idea of making & checking back on your list. I find the initial step is where I tend to procrastinate. You made the appointment for your #3 item, that’s the hardest part!

Helena, inspired by you, I also wrote a list. Mine was not as long as yours and focused primarily on spending more time with the people that I love, particularly the older remaining members of my family and recording their wonderful life stories (they were all born in Europe before or during the second World War and a great majority migrated to Australia in the 50s and 60s). I have started on this. I have always enjoyed reading about our world history and to hear this history from those who have lived through it is, for me, inspirational and wonderful. Whilst doing this I also started collecting the old photographs of my relatives (often found contained in old shoeboxes) and have been scanning and digitising them. I want to put together a gallery wall of these old photographs and be able to rotate the photos on display in my home. Now, I will know the history behind each old photo and I am truly thankful for that.

When I saw on instagram your list then I decided make my own. Now when you put update, I was afraid to read it because I did just 2-3 things of my 17 on the list. When I read your article, I was a littla relief. We all are humans with obligations. But list is great motivation to change something on better.

Hi Helena! In regards to number 10 “take a wine class”.. you can do that in Tuscany . There are a lot of great options there and you can combine it with food ( an you will be able to learn new recipes as well) .. I alo so do new years resolutions. This year I commited to do more sport and eat better… 🙂

For the love of your child, BACK UP YOUR PHOTOS NOW!!! I lost fours years of my daughter’s life and now, 1 month away from her high school graduation, I realize I have no photos of her first four years of school and all the life she lived during that time! Those images are worth so much more than the time you spend backing them up.
