Diaper Drive Details

Huggies Diaper Drive, No Baby Unhugged, Helena of Brooklyn Blonde

Before I jump into the full details of the Diaper Drive that I’ll be hosting, I wanted to share a quick story. One of my friends, Mary, went through her own struggles that I only recently became aware of. About two years ago, Mary was about to give birth to her second child. Both her and her husband were working full time jobs and out of nowhere, her husband got laid off. Even with two salaries, they were living paycheck to paycheck and almost overnight, they found themselves in a really difficult situation. They got to a point where they needed to collect food stamps and WIC, but unfortunately, federal subsidies do not cover the cost of diapers. That is one of the biggest misconceptions about families struggling to afford diapers. Many think that there are government programs that help in these situations, but sadly, there is no such thing. Babies, especially newborns, can go through up to 6-10 diapers a day! Mary had two children in diapers so she found herself in a really difficult situation, finding herself barely able to scrape by.

Thankfully, a few months after that point, her husband found another (better!) job and they were able to come out from under. However, it was that point in her life that Mary realized the significant struggle so many households face. Diaper need impacts so many families, more than I ever realized.

Since working with Huggies, my eyes have truly opened up. I had no idea that 1-in-3 (36%) of families actually struggle with diaper need, as Huggies and the National Diaper Bank Network uncovered in their recent study Diaper Need and Its Impact on U.S. Families. I’m really excited to be hosting this diaper drive, as well as bringing a bit more awareness to the issue. Below are the details. If you’re in New York, I really hope you’ll be able to join!

My daughter outgrew her 1 size pampers and I have about 50 left. Can I mail them to you?

Hi. I’ve been following your blog/insta for some time but coming to a sad conclusion that it’s high time to stop. Just in between all those fancy clothes, cosmetics, food, kitchen appliances, cars – sudden realization that there are people in need. Comments section sums it up – what is really important: boots, coat and cute baby pic. I think I don’t want to lead that kind of lifestyle and co-create such a materialistic, consumerist society.

New reader here.Great blog and great cause! I didn’t know that WIC didn’t cover diapers! And to Karolina- you could just go out and help someone and need and say “thanks” to Helena for the idea. Just a thought.
