This past weekend, Keith and I stayed back in the city, with a little day escape to my old hood, Rockaway Beach. My father still lives there (my mother recently moved to Brooklyn), so when we go, we pile ourselves and our two dogs into the car and spend the day BBQing and relaxing near the ocean. It’s close by, but seriously feels like a mini vacation. As much as hopping on a plane for a real vacation is preferred, since that can’t always happen, we try to get creative with monthly staycations.
For my outfit: an easy white button down (as always), light weight shorts and my roomy kate spade new york Francis tote, which will definitely serve as my summer “it” bag this year. Being that I leave my house for the entire day, I always pack some essentials:
Staycation Essentials:
*Large beach towel, typically something bright and cheery.
*My favorite Panama Hat: gotta prevent premature aging as much as I can! Something I’m even more crazy about now that I’m in my 30’s.
*Magazines: gave my fashion magazines a little break and opted for an issue of Clean Eating. Trying to get inspired with some summer recipes, incorporating as much fresh fish and veggies as we can. Since we’re now able to grill outside, it makes it so much easier to eat clean. If you guys have some favorite recipes, please share!
*Flip Flops: The few times I’ve worn flip flops around the city, I’ve come home with some dirty feet (gross, I know), so I really prefer not to. When I’m heading out to the beach, I’ll usually wear sandals and bring my favorite flip flops with me.
And of course, plenty of sunblock, headphones and some lip balm with SPF in it.
Lastly, for something a little more glamorous than a staycation, kate spade new york is giving away a dream vacation to Rio.
*the Francis tote is exclusive to the kate spade new york store at 17 newtown in East Hampton, NY, but you can also get it online here.
