Maelove: The Glow Maker Review

Maelove: The Glow Maker ReviewLet me start off by saying that Skinceuticals C E Ferulic has been one of my holy grail products for years. For those who are still not familiar, C E Ferulic is a vitamin C serum that provides protection against environmental damage. It also improves signs of aging and helps reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles while simultaneously brightening your complexion.  It’s an incredible product with one major downfall, it’s very expensive costing $166 for a bottle.

Now, don’t get wrong. I’m willing to invest in my skin. I’ve obviously made that very known by some of the products I use and the treatments I get. But as I was going to pull the trigger on buying a new bottle, I thought to myself: “you know what. let me see if there’s another, less expensive option out there.” So I did what I typically do: I crowdsourced via Instagram stories.  So, here we are. A few people recommend Maelove The Glow Maker and at $28, it was a no brainer. For the sake of research and my wallet, I had to try.

The Glow Maker Review

Much like C E Ferulic,  The Glow Maker, which by the way, was founded by MIT grads, focuses on hyperpigmentation, smoothing, and hydration. It’s packed with ingredients like vitamins C (15% L-ascorbic acid), E and ferulic acid for antioxidation protection, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and a proprietary mix of botanicals (grape seed extract, aloe, aurantium dulcis, and magnolia) for nourishment. There’s also the addition of extracts which makes the serum better for sensitive skin than most vitamin C serums.

I’ve been using it for about three weeks now.  I always use it in the AM, after cleansing and toning and before my hyaluronic acid and SPF. It feels light going on the skin and never leaves a sticky/tacky residue, something I always appreciate in a product. Sadly, a lot of products I try, feel sticky and don’t absorb well. That is not the case with The Glow Maker. It absorbs well and quickly!

In summary, I really do like The Glow Maker.

Do I like it as much as C E Ferulic? Hmmm.. probably not. If they were both the same price, I’d purchase the Skinceuticals. However, for $28, the Glow Maker is a really solid vitamin C. My skin definitely feels brighter and “happier” when using it. I’ve also noticed that because of its price tag, I’m a bit more generous with how much I apply to my face, neck and chest. I’ve also heard that you fall into one of two camps: you either really like it or are very underwhelmed by it. I’m in the former category. All that being said, I will definitely be repurchasing, even just to have in my skincare arsenal. I’ll probably also purchase Skinceuticals C E Ferulic again, just to remind myself how much I love it.

Would I recommend The Glow Maker? Absolutely. You just can’t beat the price and it’s a really solid product. Particularly if you’re looking to incorporate a vitamin C into your routine, but don’t want to shell out big bucks. Will I continue to buy Skinceuticals C E Ferulic? Most likely – until I find a better one that comes along.

If you’ve found something you like better than C E Ferulic, please share!! I’m always curious to try. After all, it’s for the sake of research.

Thank you for sharing your honest thoughts on The Glow Maker. Even though it wasn’t perfect, glad to hear you still recommend it!

Such a helpful review! I’m wondering if you’ve ever tried Paula’s Choice “C15 Super Booster?” Like Skinceuticals, it also has 15% ascorbic acid, vitamin E, and ferulic acid. PC is not as “sexy” and doesn’t get as much love on social media, but I’ve found they have great dupes for lots of products at a much more reasonable cost. This product is $49 when it’s full price, but they have sales ALL the time. I usually don’t pay more than $40 for it. I really like it BUT I haven’t tried the Skinceuticals version so would love a comparison! I’m also willing to invest in my skincare so would consider trying SC if you test it and think it’s that much better. 🙂

Super helpful! I’ve had Paula’s Choice on my radar for a while but like you’d said, it doesn’t get a whole lot of publicity so I rarely hear any feedback about the products. I got on the Mae Love train a few months ago but this will be my next purchase.

I haven’t tried that particular product, but I fully support looking into Paula’s Choice. The 2% BHA liquid exfoliant single handedly got rid of my cystic acne on my chin. And such a reasonable price. Not sexy; but super effective

I have tried so many vitamin c serums. Love the one by shunly. I’ll highly recommend anyone to try.

I really really appreciate that you tried something at a lower price point for us! You are one of only two bloggers that I “will try anything she recommends” because you have never steered me wrong. That said, I make the splurge here and there but can’t always because of price points. This review is such an inclusive post and I hope I see more like this (without sacrificing your honesty like here with the fact that Skinceuticals is better)! <3

I hope this is available in London! I am currently using the Ordinary Vit C but definitely want to try other options.

Hi, I’ve been looking to get my hands on Maelove in Europe and it just seems impossible. I have found a vit c serum that is very much alike: Geek & Gorgeous C-Glow serum. It’s a Hungarian indie brand and their retinAl serums are great too! The C-Glow serum is only €10,50. I used TO before and I prefer this one! I am not affiliated with them btw, just happy to have found a good vit c serum with vit e and ferulic! 🙂

Love this post and appreciate your honesty! I also have been using this product from Maelove for about 8 weeks now. My skin looks great but i’m just a bit underwhelmed, like you, as well. I think I wish it had some kind of a scent. Since it doesn’t, I feel like It’s not doing anything! lol.. Skin doesn’t look remarkably better.. but hoping the combo of Maelove plus Vitner’s Daughter (using since Christmas) will do some miracles to my skin! And yes, you are the one blogger that I totally try all your recommendations! 🙂

Hi Gabrielle, love your honesty, but do keep in mind that perfume is a very well known irritant so it’s actually better it doesn’t smell. the best products for your skin smell bad!

Bought this! Ended up buying the serum trio. Cannot go wrong for the price. Love your blog!

I’m trying the Epi.logic vitamin C serum and love it so far. Would love to hear your take! The serum was created by this badass doctor in Brooklyn.

Have you ever tried any of The Ordinary products? I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.

I was so happy to see this review. I’ve started using the Skinceuticals but I don’t really see what it does I just don’t see any difference in my skin (used for 6 months now) It was recommended by my dermatologist but don’t love the price. Also, I bought it at the derm office and it’s very yellow and I’ve read that means it’s not as effective. I’ve wanted to try Maelove so maybe I’ll give that a try after your review.

    • Ella

I felt the same way. My mom gave me a bottle I actually had no idea the price and I used it pretty religiously for 6+ months and saw 0 difference. Now that I know the $ there’s no way I would purchase.
