BCRF Gala

Last Tuesday, I had the incredible privilege of attending the BCRF Cure‘s Hot Pink Party. Having lost people to breast cancer, and knowing way too many women who have fought the battle, I could have not been more honored to attend. The dress code was black tie and I was in the mood to wear something bright, bold and slightly dramatic. After all, it was a gala and I felt  “if not now, then when?” #yolo.
Speaking of black tie, I know I’m not the only one who receives a black tie invite and thinks “black tie… what the hell am I going to wear?” Does the dress have to black? Does the dress have to be long? Does it in fact HAVE to be a dress? Just how fancy do I have to be?”
For men it might be different, but through the years of going to a few black tie events, I’ve learned that for women, it’s a pretty wide range. I’ve gone to black tie events where women are wearing a pant suit and looked appropriate and totally fabulous. Of course, I think it depends on what city you live in, who’s throwing the party and what kind of crowd will be in attendance, but personally, I’ve bent the rules in the past and have never regretted it. One of my friends was concerned that the dress I wore above was a bit too “daytime party,” but after arriving to the gala and seeing what everyone else was wearing, thankfully, that wasn’t the case.
