How Has Your Style Changed in 2020?

I met up with a few of my best friends for dinner the other night and I said to them, “I’ve never purchased or worn so many sneakers in my entire life.”

2020 has definitely been the year of more comfortable clothing for everyone, including myself. While there are so many moments I miss dressing up for, I’ve been enjoying the slight shift that my style has taken over the last year, especially since becoming a mom of two. In my 20’s and even early 30’s, I cared more about my outfit looking a certain way rather than being comfortable. These days, I love to find ways to incorporate my style, something I’d describe as a mix of ‘classic with a slight edge and a bit of glamour,’ into an outfit that I am more comfortable wearing (mainly when it comes to shoes.)

Not to say that my heel wearing days are over – absolutely no way! Actually the thought of that makes me shudder; but right now, I’ve been enjoying the slight change in footwear. If I do wear a pair of Converse, I love mixing them with something dressier. My coat is vintage, but this one from Mango has a very similar look. The entire site is currently 30-40% off with the code ‘Extra40.’ I recently got a few long sleeved tees (wearing above) from there that have been in heavy rotation.

For the Converse, I sized down one full size (since they’re Unisex). I normally wear a 8.5 or a European 39.5 and a 7.5 fit perfectly.

    Hi Helena-
this is such a chic & classic look! Obsessed with your style and how you always make it look effortless but so on point!
    Stay healthy! xo

I was already a mom of two and working from home before the pandemic started, and I think I’m done with heels and also dry clean-only fabrics, apart from special occasion items when it’s safe to go to weddings and events again. I never invested in suits, but the few pieces of office wear that I do have I’m either selling or donating. I’m just not someone who puts on a button-up silk blouse for Zoom meetings.

Same, girl, same. I had my third baby before Covid, and I feel like my casual day wear has definitely never seen so many sweatsuits and sneakers in rotation since quarantine. I’m honestly so thankful that comfort wear is on trend, and I’m pretty sure that fashion and personal style is shifting because everyone is spending more time at home. I love it, but I’m also never giving up my heels. Just buying less of them lately. Xo

My style has definitely changed this year! However, as much as I added some more comfortable and “multi-purpose” items into my wardrobe – as in, comfortable but definitely Zoom meeting approved hahah, I also find myself that when I get new clothes, I am also a bit more experimental and “brave” with my choices! That might be because I get sooo excited whenever I can dress up a bit, that I really enjoy playing with my style some more 🙂

    Hi Helena –
Same story! My style as well has changed so do the size unfortunately:( sitting all the time in front of laptop in comfy clothes and working from home does not help.. Not sure if I will fit soon in my pre-covid clothes to look dressed-up with heels on 😉
I need totally to rethink my closet, loving your way of mixing clothes – chic & comfy look I need to follow it.
    All the best! xo Ola

Same thing happening here in New Zealand… although our style of dressing has always been on the casual side. For me, I work from home part of the week, but when I’m in the office, I have ditched skinny jeans and have embraced boyfriend jeans. I still wear heels, but am phasing out stiletto heels and opting for block heels. As for trousers, they absolutely must have an elastic waist or I am not interested! I have also stopped wearing bras and wear bralettes instead. Sloggi brand has many styles and they are so so comfy!

I think we all definitely miss dressing up a bit more but I am so here for comfort clothing! Really love how you styled this look to mix in bits of your style… maybe I’m a bit bias on the sneakers because converse are my go to shoe for life! Haha
