Happy Weekend! Off to Italy and what I’m clicking on this week.

Happy Weekend! We leave for Italy this Sunday night and as excited as I am, I have those pre-trip nerves that are associated with making sure we have everything packed, organized and done before a big trip. That aside, I’m really looking forward to getting away and to explore a new part of the world. This will be our first trip to Europe as a family (and our longest flight with Nate), so I’m just crossing all fingers that the 8+ hour flight goes smoothly with a toddler in tow.

This week, I’m listening to a new podcast, excited about a new (to me) beauty brand, a face highlighter that gives the most incredible glow and lots more:

For the plane, I got Nate this brilliant travel kit for the plane. If you’re feeling creative, you could put it together yourself but quite honestly, I didn’t want to be bothered. It came from the UK, but arrived within a week!

I’ve been listening to the podcast ‘To Live and Die in LA,” and I’m very into it. It follows Rolling Stone journalist, Neil Strauss, as he tries to get answers about an aspiring actress who vanished from her Hollywood apt.

I may have had to give up retinol during this pregnancy, but at least there’s this trusty lactic acid. I’ve been using it for years and thankfully, lactic acid, is one of those ingredients that’s gentle enough (deemed safe for pregnant and nursing women), but does an excellent job at keeping the skin exfoliated, soft and bright.

What dads really want for Father’s Day.

Maxi dresses have become my uniform this summer, even though most of them aren’t specifically made for maternity! They’re just so comfortable & easy. I’ve worn this one several times & this one is great for every day wear.

I’ve been using a few skincare products from Beauty Pie and have been really impressed. It’s a membership service, but don’t let that scare you off. Their concept is to sell luxury beauty products (with wonderful ingredients) at extremely low prices. How? They cut out all of the middlemen so it’s direct to consumer.

18 Weeks Pregnant: Outfits I’ve Worn So Far & So On…

The White Company has so many chic, beautiful pieces for vacation and summer dressing.

This video gave me all the feels.

I have a massive sweet tooth. So much that I need a bite or lick of something sweet after almost every meal. I recently ordered this snack butter and it’s been pretty great at curbing my craving. It’s high in protein, low in sugar and just the right amount of sweetness. I will warn, it does taste a drop like a protein bar, but that doesn’t bother me.

Love this layering necklace.

For the parents of a picky eater. Nate has become increasingly pickier and while I try not to stress over it too much, I definitely welcome a few tips in that department.

I’ve been using this Glass Glow face highlighter from Kevyn Aucoin and I really love it. It comes in three colors, but I decided to go with the clear (and I might go back and get a 2nd one). A little goes a long way, but it creates the most beautiful, dewy/glassy look.

Espadrilles are such a summer staple. I just got these & found a more budget-friendly style that’s also very cute.

40 new thrillers that make the perfect vacation reads.

Have the best weekend!!

xo,

Helena

    Hello Helena, enjoy beautiful Italy.
When my son was Nate’s age, he also became a picky eater. Try not to stress. As long as the food that Nate is choosing to eat is healthy, nutritious and provides a complex range of vitamins and minerals, he will be fine (even if his food selection is limited). My son did not like salads but was happy to eat vegetables particularly vegie soups, roasted and mashed vegies. As he got older and I could reason with him, I would get him to eat 1 to 2 mouthfuls of any salad that I made (salads had to be dressed with olive oil, a pinch of salt and vinegar or lemon juice, otherwise he would not eat it). One thing to pay attention to is the quality of the food and how it is grown/raised. I always buy local, from small markets and have a small home vegie garden with fruit trees. Commercially grown food, particularly vegetables and fruit are bland, very little flavour and taste terrible. For example, a home grown tomato has so much flavour than a store bought one, store bought eggs taste terrible versus organic eggs etc. Helena, you have previously stated that Keith has a green thumb. Maybe you could have a small vegie garden and dwarf fruit trees (maybe you already have one and I am assuming Nate doesn’t like vegies. I am assuming a lot here – sorry). In short, keep offering different foods, textures and tastes, the majority of toddlers get past the picky stage. My son just turned 22, he eats everything, except fruit. As a baby, toddler, young child, teenager he has always hated the sweet taste – the only fruit that he eats are citrus fruits, berries and granny smith apples. The advantage of this health wise is, he also hates the of taste of cakes, biscuits, sweets, ice-cream etc. My mother-in-law was an excellent cake/desert maker and she was mortified that her grandson didn’t like any of her sweet creations. 😊Wishing you, Keith and Nate a wonderful family holiday. For picky eaters: I have 4 boys under 10 and my secret is Smoothies! I fill them with fruit, greens, almond milk and healthy boosters (chia, wheat germ). They’re great for breakfast, a snack, and its my go to for popsicles on hot summer days. I order the sleeves off amazon and fill up the freezer! Love your blog, thanks for sharing each day. Xo
