Happy Friday: Thoughts on a Star is Born & More

Happy Friday! This photo was taken in Woodstock and it was such a wonderful few days with some of my dearest friends. We rented an adorable house that we found on Airbnb and we really got the chance to catch up on each others lives. We’re all super busy, life gets in the way, but carving out time for your special people is so worth it.

Happy Friday: Thoughts on a Star is Born & More

On our second night there, we all headed to dinner followed by seeing a Star is Born. We were all itching to see it and were so excited to find a movie theater less than 30 minutes away. This was actually my first time seeing a movie, in a theater, in almost two years! After hearing so much hype surrounding it (and I loveeeee Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper), I was expected to be blown away.

I know that I’m in the minority here, but it wasn’t an “oh my god! this is the best movie I’ve seen in years” type of feeling. Don’t get me wrong, I really liked it, but did I love it? Nah, I can’t say that I did. I guess I expected a bit more. Bradley Cooper’s acting was A++ (and holy crap, he is so easy on the eyes) and the same goes for Lady Gaga’s singing , but something fell a bit short with the development of their story and their relationship. With that being said, I’ve thought about it a lot since seeing it.

I’ve watched videos from the movie and I would also see it again in a heartbeat, which says something. Again, I’m in the minority for not loving it, so take that with a grain of salt. If you’ve seen it, what were your thoughts?

Agree on A Star is Born. I thought it was amazing and loved the music and the acting, but I did feel like it was a little underdeveloped – there were a lot of plot points that I felt needed to be expanded on and felt like they were left on the cutting room floor!

I love that you shared your honest opinion about Star is born. I’m still iffy about going to go to the movies to see it haha. And I love Keiko’s Halloween costumes – she nailed it! I also love that article about spotting fake following/likes. Great read!

I’m with you. I wasn’t blown away either but the ending did get me shedding some tears. I also thought about it a lot after watching it too & would watch again. It wasn’t the best movie ever, ever. It was good, maybe even really good. But not incredible.

Really enjoyed the movie – the entire cast was amazing. That said, I didn’t walk away thinking “this is the most amazing movie ever and I have to see it over and over.”

I loved it, even though I could see its flaws. I didn’t really get why they stayed together. Jack was pretty unappealing to me. I have also thought about the film a lot since seeing it.

I love Gaga 🙂 and Bradley Cooper is normally a very strong actor (Limitless, American Hustle), but here, he almost destroyed his own baby with his terrible acting, or rather overacting. He just grunted his way through the movie 🙂 And that one scene where he has a fight with Sam Elliot – it was supposed to be this super dramatic moment, but their voices, and the accents – it was such a cliche I was actually laughing. Shallow’s a hit. I think the movie started strong. Normally rock stars in films are shown from the POV of the audience. This was from the POV of the star. And the film also did a decent job of exploring transforming a talent into a pop star. Much like Gaga herself. She can sing pretty much anything but so far she’s been stuck in the pop diva image. So it’s worth watching, I’ll probably watch it again but for Gaga and for the music, not for the love story or Jack’s story.
