A Sneak Peek of my Closet

Sharing a few glimpses of my closet aka my happy place! Prior to moving into our new home, Keith and I made a little deal: he would get part of the basement for his work studio (man cave) and I would be able to turn one of the bedrooms into a walk-in closet. Yes, dreams certainly do come true. As someone who has lived in smallish NYC apartments for their entire life, a decent amount of closet space was never a thing. I almost got used to having all of my things in dark spaces, shoe boxes stacked one on top of another and in general, living in an unorganized mess. So needless to say, this project has been something I’ve been having so much fun with.

Prior to the installation, I did a ton of research on what closet system I wanted to go with. I narrowed it down to California Closet and The Container Store’s Elfa System and ended up going with the Elfa. Not only did I read a ton of positive reviews, but I’ve had a few friends who’ve used them and were so happy with the results. The difference between the two: California Closet was significantly more expensive and definitely a lot fancier since they basically build the entire closet into the actual room. From start to finish, it takes about 4-6 weeks and while it’s an incredibly impressive look, I decided I didn’t want to spend 3-4x more. Twice a year, The Container Store has their 30% off sale, both off supplies and installation, so I waited until January and pretty much had them install it within a few days. Overall, I’m so happy with how it turned out and quite honestly, it looks even better (in my opinion) than I envisioned it. Since accessories are an enormous part of my wardrobe, I used an entire wall for that knowing I wanted to create a bit of a boutique feel when displaying all of my favorite pieces. Being able to actually see what I own is such a good feeling and something so new to me! I feel so much more organized and not so all over the place. Since I’m typically not the most organized person, this is a big deal. The other side of my closet, which I’ll share next time in the completed closet photos, is used for all of my hanging clothes, folded sweaters, denim, and other miscellaneous things.
There are still a few things I need to get in order to finish the room, but for now, it’s a work in progress! The next steps: a chandelier, a smaller rug for a layered look, actual curtains to protect my pieces from the sun, some artwork to hang up on the walls and a full length mirror!
