Drug Testing | The Office Ladies

This week we’re breaking down Drug Testing…JINX! Buy Me a Coke! We start off this episode by checking in with Kentapedia (Kent Zbornack) to get some facts straight on the shooting schedule. Jenna gives some Micheal Scott trivia, and we get a little deductive sass from Dwangela. Then we get into Michael’s fear of being drug tested, Dwight’s hilarious struggle with helping Micheal pass his drug test, and Jenna does a deep dive on what could possibly make your urine green. Finally, Jenna talks about the three taps on the coke can moment. And we dig into the deleted scenes to find who left that joint in the parking lot.

And why control and love are inherently at odds.

Andrew Marantz | Armchair Expert

Andrew Marantz is a journalist, staff writer for The New Yorker magazine and author of Antisocial: Online Extremists, Techno-Utopians and the Hijacking of the American Conversation. He sits down with the Armchair Expert (pre social distancing) to discuss working as a journalist and specifically his time researching internet trolls and the direct ways in which they impact society. He talks about his experience getting to know many white nationalists. And the revelation they aren’t always people you would expect. Dax wonders if there is an effective way to attack hateful ideologies without forgoing free speech. And Andrew encourages social media companies to implement more foresight.

Comparative Suffering, the 50/50 Myth, and Settling the Ball | Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

We have collectively hit weary. This is especially true for the brave folks on the front lines of this pandemic and for the people who love and support them. And, it’s also true for all of us. In this episode, I talk about strategies for falling apart, staying connected + kind. And giving ourselves permission to feel hard things.

I’m Sorry: How To Apologize & Why It Matters | Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

This two-episode special is based on a course that Dr. Harriet Lerner and I did together on her groundbreaking book, “Why Won’t You Apologize?: Healing Big Betrayals and Everyday Hurts.” You can expect authentic, hard conversations (and one helluva role play) about making mistakes, healing hurts, and being brave. Harriet is a friend, mentor, and teacher. Her work has shaped my career and made my life better. During a time of deep uncertainty and anxiety – when many of us have struggled to be our best selves all of the time – apologizing has never been more important. Click here for Part 2.

Grief & Finding Meaning | Unlocking Us with Brené Brown

Grief expert David Kessler takes us by the hand and walks us into what he’s learned about love, loss, and finding meaning. As someone who has a lot of fear about grief and grieving, this conversation is not what I expected. The only word I can use to describe what I learned from David is “beautiful.”

There’s Something About Mary (1998) | Double Impact

We’re spending another episode in the late 90s this week with the 1998’s tasteless yet sweet comedy, There’s Something About Mary. This movie is very much in what we would call a ‘high risk category’ with regard to how well it holds up. So it’s a juicy exploration this time around. But you know what to expect, it’s all in there – all that good stuff – so dig in!

Burnt My Grundle | Absolutely Not by Heather McMahan

I Hate Everyone with Jackie Schimmel of The Bible Bitch Podcast | Absolutely Not by Heather McMahan

On this episode of the Absolutely Not Podcast, Heather has dear friend and fellow shit talker extraordinaire, Jackie Schimmel in the studio. They both look as equally hideous on zoom as they do in person. So no surprise there. The girls discuss trying to stay motivated, where they are on the emotional roller coaster that is quarantine and how much they are both starting to literally hate, well, EVERYONE. That and more!

Influencer Deep Dive, Part III | Be There in Five

In the finale of this influencer-centric trilogy, Kate tells all. The first two were more based on influencer behavior during COVID-19. But this episode is more of a general discussion of Kate’s thoughts toward the business of monetizing being a person. Based on listener questions, she reviews her thoughts on the influencer business model as a whole, breaks down the heyday of Pinterest and OG blogging, expresses concern for how the industry is talked about, the lack of credit given to women for what is essentially category creation, reviews theories on rules of thumb for Instagram pricing, discusses the podcasting business model, her own intentions in the realm of influence, experience with affiliate links, how influencers make money, and so much more! Enjoy.

“The Murdochs” Series | Even The Rich

What’s black and white and read all over the world? In this new four-part series, we look at the in-fighting, back-stabbing, and the many marriages of Rupert Murdoch and his children. The fight in the Murdoch clan to take over the media tycoon’s empire is so juicy that it inspired HBO’s hit series “Succession”. Well, we have a secret: the real-life story is even juicier. The true heir will control a multi-billion dollar conglomerate with the power to elect presidents. In this episode, young Rupert Murdoch transforms a single newspaper into a global media empire. He hopes one of his kids will take over someday. There’s only one problem: Rupert can’t decide which kid.

Thank you for this post! I’m always looking for specific episodes because I find I’m easily overwhelmed by all the options! This American Life’s “The Out Crowd” is an episode about Trump’s Remain In Mexico policy and how it is impacting individual lives, from asylum officers to refugees to children. It’s painful, raw, very beautifully done, and recently won the first Pulitzer for audio journalism. It was a holistic way to understand a topic that I knew very little about.

Thinking about my favourite podcast episode ever was pretty easy – “I have your pants” by What Say You.
I’m a big fan of the impractical Jokers and love this series from 2 of them which is mostly non-sensical chatter. This episode is comedy gold – I was listening to it for the first time 2 weeks into a new job and was crying with laughter, I listen to it a couple of times a year as it’s just hilarious! That reminds me… I’m overdue a relisten!
