Oscar Nominated Movies, A New Eye Palette & The Show I Cannot Stop Watching

Happy Friday! Last night, Keith and I finally watched Bohemian Rhapsody and I was pretty blown away by Rami Maleks performance as Freddie Mercury. He was so good!  I still have a lot of Oscar nominated movies  to catch up on. The only other one that I’ve seen is A Star is Born. How about you guys?

I also started watching YOU on Netflix and again, it’s campy and slightly cheesy, but I’m really into it! Someone mentioned that it’s kind of like Gossip Girl meets Dexter. Completely agree!

The most precious kids collaboration from Aerin and Janie & Jack.

This is what college dreams are made of.

Heart eyes for this sweater, perfect for Valentine’s Day!

Proof that neutrals can make a striking statement in a home.

A great video on how to create naturally bushy brows.

Earlier this week, I shared some of my all time favorite purchases.

I’ve been using the new Nars ‘Skin Deep’ palette and it’s absolutely stunning. Possibly my new favorite eye palette!

Here’s everything that’s leaving & coming to Netflix in February 2019.

There’s a growing movement to change the term “postpartum depression” to reach more women who need help.

Instead of listing all my resolutions for this year, I’ve put together 19 things, big & small, that I want to accomplish in 2019.

26 books that people say ‘spark joy’ for them (sorry Marie Kondo.)

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend!

xo,

Helena

To all the lovely young ladies, there are many beauty/cosmetic trends and procedures out there. Before choosing to do anything to your appearance (even something considered to be minor), please be careful and think about the/research any future consequences. When I hit my teenage years in the early 80s, thin, overplucked eyebrows were the beauty trend. My eyebrows were full (think a young Brooke Shields). I wanted to pluck them thin. My parents would not allow it nor the wearing of any make-up – they were strict European parents. Their reasons as to why, the chemicals in makeup damage skin and overplucking of eyebrows damages the hair follicles. Needless to say I was not happy and annoyed with them. But, as a 51 year old woman I am thankful that they would not allow me to do those things. Today, my teenage friends struggle with sparse and thin eyebrows – the hair will not grow. I have full, shapely brows without having to do anything to them (I only pluck out stray hairs that do not fit in with my natural brow shape) . I am often stopped and asked by young women who does and what do they do to my eyebrows. And, they are surprised as to my response of no one and nothing. Likewise, I only wear makeup on special occasions. Daily I only wear an organic moisturiser, mascara and lipstick. And again, women are surprised as to how youthful my skin looks for a 51 year old. I hope my comment does not come off as arrogant and preachy. My heart goes out to the young women of today who are constantly bombarded with the message that natural is not attractive and that makeup and cosmetic trends/procedures are the holy grail to beautiful skin and appearance. What you do or do not do to yourselves today, will affect your future self.
