Fleeting {and other miscellaneous thoughts}

My mother once said to me “your 30’s will not only be some of the best years of your life, but also the quickest.” It feels like my 20’s took ages to go by, but my 30’s have been going by in the flash. I don’t know if it’s because my birthday is next week, but I’ll tell you, it definitely feels a bit crazy.

I’ve always been one, especially in the last few years, that tries to savor the little things in life, but some days are easier than others. Especially when I see some of my closest friends dealing with real things like infertility, loved ones with cancer and other painful issues, but I guess, sadly, that’s part of life. My intention is not for this post to come off all sad and debbie downer-ish, but just sharing my current thoughts.

In the past, we’ve shared what brings us joy, so in the same vein, are there practices you all participate in that help ground you? Practices that make you feel happier, more peaceful, and content? I’ve recently started keeping a gratitude journal and it’s such a simple thing to do, yet mentally, so rewarding. My next mission, to incorporate some meditation into my crazy, busy life. Even if it’s for 5 minutes a day! But, one thing at a time…

How about you?!

You’re a total master of minimal chic… this outfit is like the ideal uniform!

I also recently started a gratitude journal. It’s crazy how much time seems to slow down when I stop and try to appreciate moments rather than rushing from one thing to the next.

I always LOVE your posts!! The outfit is ?!! And meditation is something that I really want to do as well but in the meantime sneaking out in the dark mornings for a run (my girls have to be in school at 7:45) as well as yoga and a good book take me to my happy place and provide the peace I so desperately need in an otherwise hectic day 😉 Have a beautiful day ☀️

Yes, def. being grateful and remembering each day to reflect back on the day, realising how much we have to be thankful for and how little our problems are next to somebody else’s problems are great moments of realisation that life is what we make it, our thoughts and gratefulness play big part in how our day-to-day lives will be.

I recently started using the meditation app Headspace and it has been life changing! It helps me feel so much more mindful all day long. I strongly recommend. And no worries about being a debbie downer so to speak, life is a mixed bag and a complex emotional experience is healthy. I eshew the idea of being happy all the time.

Love the looks, thank you for sharing!
Life is not easy at all sometimes (or all the times) I also try to savor the little things everyday.

When I first sit down in the office, I play my favourite piece of classical music, it centres me and gets me focused and ready to start the day

I think people appreciate transparency!! So thanks for sharing. I know I appreciate it. I have a journal that I write in every morning to start my day of refreshed and free of yesterday! It’s been great. I also document my successes in another journal so I can look back and celebrate my victories. xx

Happy is an emotion, one of many and one that passes. I don’t understand the societal push that everyone must be happy. It is unrealistic and impossible to be happy all of the time. My life has brought good times and it has brought difficult times. When going through the difficult times, I prayed that they would be taken away/removed – I did not want to endure them. But, they weren’t removed and I had to endure them. Going through bad times is tough but I often found that when I had come out of a difficult time that I had grown as a person – and for that growth, maturity and wisdom I am thankful for. I became a better person because of my suffering. I am also thankful that I had family and friends that were there for me during the difficult times. This world, I feel, has turned its back on living as a community, we live individual lives. I have found that life is cyclical – there are days when we are knee deep in a tough situation, there are the days when we are coming out of a difficult situation and then there are the days when life is good but around the corner there is a difficult situation coming our way. Pursuit of happiness, for me, is unrealistic. Pursuing a community of family and friends is everything for me – I want to be there for others in the same way that others have been there for me. Life is hard but leaning on others and allowing others to lean on you can ease the burden of difficult times.

Oof, my 20s have been flying by pretty quickly already. And you say my 30s will go by faster? Oh noooo!
But yeah, taking time to savor things is important, especially with a life much too short to experience it all, we must enjoy what we do get the opportunity to experience.

Such a chic look! I’ve recently been reading a lot of articles and blogposts raving about meditation. I just don’t think it’s for me but have decided this week that I will give a try. I’m turning 34 next week and feel like time is really flying, like didn’t I just turn 30. Is there a slow down life app? I could use that. Have a lovely weekend.

Yours is by far my favorite blog of all! Your outfits are always spot on and your sentiments are so real, they always makes me smile. I especially like this question – what helps me stay grounded? Prayer, Bible reading & meditation. It feeds my ‘spiritual need’. (Matt. 5:3) I’ve also found comfort from learning how much practical information is in the Bible (sometimes it reminds me of the ‘Neverending Story’ movie) JW.org has made it super easy to find Bible based information on all sorts of topic – family, health, hope for the future. Yes, it’s an old book but like a great vintage piece, it shouldn’t be counted out.
Thanks for creating such an awesome blog and I think you’ll enjoy JW.org too. Happy Sunday!

  • JO I am also an old fan

I do love how your calves look with those Balenciaga, they are to die for.
I will steal your gratitude diary.
Yes, sometimes we are selfish to focus on this didnt go our way, when simply are signals and reminders, there are better things awaiting, Focusing on things didnt go our way is staring at a corner when there is a whole view outside.
    🙂 hughs!

When ever I’m feeling down I sit down and write a list of all the things I have to be thankful for. Eventually, after writing for a bit I forget what I was upset about in the first place. Sometimes we forget how many blessings we have until they’re on a piece of paper staring back at us.
