Coat: Tahari ‘Marla’ and also available here (wearing a small) | Turtleneck: Club Monaco | Denim: Citizens of Humanity Maternity (wearing my pre-pregnancy size – regular non-maternity version here) | Shoes: Aquazzura (in black) | Sunglasses: Prada | Bag: Gucci StirrupHi guys! Hope you all had a wonderful holiday!

Update: I figured it was time for a 6 month pregnancy update + check-in. Firstly, I can’t believe I’m already 6 months. In many ways, I don’t really feel that way. I still feel fairly energetic and my body doesn’t feel way too differently (the way it looks, at least to me, well that’s a different story….) and at this point, I’m doing pretty much everything I was doing pre-pregnancy with the exception of enjoying some cocktails and eating sushi. Sushi! I can’t even begin to explain how much I miss it. With the okay of my doctor, I’ve had some salmon sashimi at some high quality places, but it’s never excessive and I miss everything else on the menu.

Body: Physically, although I’m still carrying on the smaller side, getting dressed is starting to get a bit more difficult. None of my old pants fit me anymore, so I’ve been living off a few pairs of my maternity jeans (these, these and these have been on constant rotation), yet wearing most of my old tops. One pair goes over the belly and the others are more low-rise, so it really depends on what top I’m wearing.

Okay, and this might be totally TMI, but I know these are little tidbits that I’d want to know, so I feel the need to share it.  With my changing body, my boobs have gotten a little out of control. I’ve always had them, but now they’re like whoa! I feel like I need to investigate in a bra minimizer so I feel slimmer and more streamlined in my clothes. I never would have even thought about it until one friend recommended it to me! So that’s my next mission.

Skin: While my skin had a minor freak out session in the first trimester, which apparently is extremely common, it’s completely calmed down and if anything, is behaving very well! With some of my own research and the okay from my doctor, I’ve been using almost all of my old products. I have omitted the use of retinol, but most other things, are still in rotation. One negative thing I will say, I’ve noticed that I’ve developed some dark circles under my eyes. Genetically, I’ve always been blessed in that department.  I’ve NEVER had dark circles and the smallest amount of under-eye concealer has always been enough to brighten up that area. Now, it’s something I’ve been noticing after realizing I need a bit more makeup under my eyes. Very annoying! Also, I should stress the importance of using SPF! Sunblock is always important, but especially when you’re pregnant. Your skin is so much more susceptible to sun damage and melasma. So if you’re pregnant,  please be careful and make sure you’re protecting any exposed body parts!

For my body and to prevent stretch marks, I’ve been using this cream. A few of you highly recommended it (thank you for that!) and while it’s definitely expensive, I love how I feel it on my body hours later. Because of the price, I only use it on my belly, breasts, thighs and booty and then use other lotion on my legs and arms. Edited to add: Recently, I also had a few people recommend this cream, which is a lot cheaper and apparently, many are a fan of (and so many great reviews). Just ordered it myself!

Sleeping: I know I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I’ve always been a stomach sleeper, so transitioning to only sleeping on my side has been a bit difficult. Initially, I was waking up pretty achy, but after getting this body pillow, based on a few of your recommendations, it’s been a game changer! Sleeping is 10x more comfortable, so thank you guys for that!

Hmmm…I guess that’s it for now! As always, thanks for following along and for all the advice and tips you’ve been sharing! I truly appreciate each and every single one of them.

PS: I lost the original belt to this coat, so wearing one from another coat that I found! Not 100%, but close enough!

xoxo,
Helena

Oh how I can recognise myself in all of these things! I was craving sushi like crazy when I was pregnant and I LOVE sushi but I couldn't have any during the pregnancy and it drove me insane. 😀
I also remember my skin being a wreck first three months and then being all super – glowy and clean the rest of the pregnancy.
You're looking great girl in this casual outfit and I like your coat very much!

You look great Helena, you are much Like I was at 6 months too…I carried small and did till the end.

I had to get new bras when I was pregnant and again after I gave birth, it's completely normal. My normal boobs (pre pregnancy) are already big at 34DDD…by the time I gave birth I was 34G 🙁 it was awful! Luckily I'm back to my "small" DDD now again 🙂

Coconut oil works well to on the tummy, helped me not get one single stretch mark during my pregnancy. Nutiva brand from Amazon.

It must be the lack of sleep that is behind your dark circles. Hopefully, you will be able to find a good sleeping position. I am glad everything is going so well for you!

I also carried small, but I'm prone to stretch marks. I used body merry! I honestly tried a bunch of lotions for pregnancy and none of them worked like this one. try it. It's not as expensive as the one you are using but works!

    Hi Helena,

It's great to know that you are doing well. I used to be a professional bra fitter at Nordstrom and I wanted to share some tips with you. Get refit ASAP for some new, temporary bras. You want your breast to be as comfortable as possible during your pregnancy. Make sure the cup of the bra covers your breast (and does not allow for spillage) and make sure the wire on the sides of the bra cups is past your breast tissue. Having the wire pressed into/poking your breast during pregnancy can clog your milk ducts and cause pain. When you're about two weeks out from your due date, you should get fit for maternity bras. I would suggest going to a place that will measure you properly (not like a Victoria Secret).

Best of luck to you! I am loving your looks!

Hi Helena! So glad you are doing well. I would also recommend the twiggy coated denim maternity jeans in black. These were my most comfortable maternity jeans as the over the belly fabric is super smooth. Also they gave me that edgy look whenever I needed it 🙂

  • annaandbill

Minimizer bra – Chantelle C Magnifique style 1891. It is THE most comfortable as well as it will give you a very nice and round shape 🙂 I know that Nordstrom carries it.

    • BrooklynBlonde

Thank you so much! Definitely going to look into it!

  • Jamie Ever After

you look gorgeous! I feel you on the boobs.. are you planning on breastfedding? They will get even bigger so leave some room in your new bras 🙂

Wow, this is so wonderful to be able to share in your pregnancy experience, Helena! I've never been pregnant, but reading blogs of women who are, gives me a better understanding of what to expect! You look amazing and I love that coat; the contrast of the belt actually works better than I think the exact color would 🙂 I'm also swooning over those heels!

I hope you're having a wonderful day so far, beautiful!

Helena, what is your Doctor allowing you to use for acne? I just started my second trimester and unfortunately it doesn't seem to be clearing up and I would LOVE to know what your using! Also, who is your derm? I'm in NY as well and been considering switching Doctors.
